THE ELDER SCROLLS III: MORROWIND
There are no words to describe how and to the extent that this game changed my brain chemistry. It's an open world RPG that doesn't hold your hand and allows you to explore at your own pace in a fantasy world that defies European aesthetics. The world comes first in this game, which I really love. The story is by far the best in the series, and the rise of the protagonist is profoundly inspirational. However powerful you think you can get in this game, it's more. WAY more. Especially if you roll a mage character. Speaking of, this game's magic system is THE BEST. The modding scene is also incredible; you can find anything from large landmass mods to simple quality of life fixes very easily.
FINAL FANTASY VII
Outstanding JRPG whose turn-based mechanics are incredibly polished, and the story matches its exceptionality. The materia system in particular makes for a lot of flexibility and adaptability in one's build. I made Barret my healer when I was playing this game for the first time, and it was great. This is one of the very few fantasy RPGs with a focus on technology and sci-fi elements while still remaining, well, fantasy.
ULTRAKILL
Ruined first person shooters and platformers for me. The art style is very old-school PS1 style, which works extremely well in its favour. The mechanics are sharp, the guns are responsive, and the platforming is not intrusive but still an essential part of the gameplay. The story is shaping up to be wonderful, and it is so far, but it's not done yet so it remains to be seen if the ending lands well. Overall, a remarkable FPS for people who love FPSes.
